While all the attention was on the Yukon, it looks like the Terrain refresh got shown last night as well? Looks good in my opinion!

My coworker has one of these as a loaner for his fully de cked out GMC Denali pickup. He hates it. He said if he knew GMC made a car  that shitty he probably wouldn’t have bought the pickup.

Is he related to MAHK?

What does your coworker dislike about it?

I own an ‘18 Terrain and love it.  Granted ours is a Denali trim, so maybe GMC just puts more time/effort into their Denalis?

Somewhat tangential but I loathe the commercial Chevy has been running with their spokes-guy condescendingly laughing at kids for not understanding advanced safety features. Every bit of it reads wrong, and having been a kid, and known kids, I’m pretty sure there are plenty of kids who understand what those things are and more amusingly, even among those that don’t, plenty who would come up with some fun made up explanation based on the name.

Looks like a 4runner that got stepped on.

I don’t think it’s bad or ugly, but it looks really generic. If you took off the GMC badge I’d have no way of guessing it was a Terrain. It’s generically handsome enough for what it needs to do. But I miss the days when GM would accidentally let one of the late night drunk ideas out of the box. GMC used to be good for at least one oddball in the lineup.

He doesn’t like “ the transmission, the engine, the interior, the exterior or the handling.” He just said it would be fine if his name was Cindy and he worked in accounting and had a couple kids . He is a bit of an eccentric, so who knows?

I mean he went from a ~$70k+ truck to a ~$30k crossover... what was he expecting?

As far as I can tell it looks just like my 2018 Terrain, but with a different grill and headlights. The headlights are the same shape, just bigger, and the grill is more squared off, that’s about it. It’s not bad looking, just more of the same. And the Terrain was already kind of a plain, generic looking CUV. They somehow made it more plain-er.

I am curious to see the AT4 gets any goodies though . My understanding is that in other vehicles the AT4 means an advanced, electronically controlled AWD system. I’d also like to see the interior, I think the interior looks nice in the Acadia AT4, curious to see what treatment the Terrain gets.

Strikes me as a bit of “Hurr durr it’s not a 3500 4x4 dually diesel truck , therefore it’s awful!”

If he got a rental he may have got a lower trim one with the 170 HP 1.5L engine and cloth interior . I have no experience with that, but the up-trim models get leather (which is comparable to anything else in the price range), GM’ s great 2.0L direct inject turbo 4, and the 9 speed automatic is fantastic and one of the few autos I don’t absolutely loathe. Handling wise it’s a C UV, not a corner carver, but its competent enough. Exterior is subjective, so I can’t argue with that. Yeah, I think I’m gonna stick with my initial assessment.

Honestly, my gripes with the Terrain are minimal. The interior is like 8/10 - I love the style and layout, but they still sneak in some “hard touch” plastics that are just conspicuous enough to detract from how nice the rest of it is. The radio is a bit wonky at times - o nce it deleted all our presets, which was annoying, and sometimes it forgets to project the little “path” on the backup cam. Also, WHO THE HELL PUT THE CHASSIS BRACE RIGHT BY THE OIL DRAIN PLUG, SO WHEN I TAKE THE PLUG OUT THE OIL HITS THE BRACE AND RUNS ALL OVER THE PLACE?!? The other things I can overlook but if I’d known about the brace thing I wouldn’t have bought it. /s (maybe)

TOTALLY AGREE. My kids come up with funny and often somewhat reasonable explanations for stuff like that! They are right in the age range of the kids in the commercial, and I was REALLY hoping there would be some awesome simplified kid-speak in there trying to explain the Fancy Marketing Speak from GM.

Ask my kids what traction control is, and they’d instantly say “That what you have to turn off if you want to do donuts” - no hesitation, I’m sure.

It’s a dealer loaner.  I’m not sure what spec.  You can clown on the guy all you want, but he is considering getting out of lease as his truck needs a software update that is not written as of yet and will take a month.  I don’t blame him.  He leased a $70,000 pickup and is stuck with mom’s taxi.

That’s some information I didn’t have before and changes my opinion somewhat. I still think he’s needlessly hating on the Terrain, but for different reasons. I feel for the guy though, I’d be pissed too if my $70k truck was screwed up and I was stuck in something that wasn’t even remotely close.
